They are made from biodegradable cellulose and contain a saline solution composed of distilled water, boric acid, and free Na+ and Cl- ions, which conduct electrical current.

Flow is approved for use in adults, 18 or older with a Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), either as monotherapy or as an adjunctive treatment. The device is only to be used under the supervision of an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
